Online Art Lessons-Week 7

Welcome to Art Class at B. Bernice Young School!

Virtual Learning Week 7: Mother's Day Week

Please scroll down to find your grade level art project for this week. If you do not have  specific materials for any given lesson you are welcome and encouraged to use what you have available at home. Each art project this week has the option of turning your artwork into a Mother's Day gift.

This is my Mom and I in Beach Haven, LBI last summer.

When you complete your art project please email me a photo of your artwork and include your child's name and classroom teacher's name.

If you have any questions or concerns please email Mr. Giannetto.

Please follow me on Facebook: Young School Art with Mr. Giannetto
and Instagram @youngschoolartwithmr.g for additional art activities.

Weekly Optional Art Challenge
Make a Mother's Day card for your Mom, Grandmother, or Aunt. Be sure to include a sweet drawing and write a special note. Think about her favorite color, favorite food, or favorite animal and include that in your work. This card is an optional art activity for all Young School students. It is not necessary to email me a photo of this card.

Congratulations Young School Artists!

I'm so proud of all my students who have been creating fantastic artwork at home! Here's a shoutout to Young School's Distance E-Learning Star Students of the week!
(All photos are posted with parental permission. Additional artists will be highlighted each week.To have your child participate please include permission to post in your email).

Kindergarten Art - Dinosaur
"Have a Dino-mite Mother's Day!"

Materials: Construction paper, marker, scissors, glue, cardboard, paint

Step 1: Draw a dinosaur using shapes. A triangle for the head, large rainbow shape for body, a long triangle for a tail, and four rectangles for the legs.

Step 2: Paint the dinosaur parts with a piece of cardboard. Dip one end into paint and use the cardboard as a stamp. This will create a rough texture for the dinosaur’s skin. Let your work dry.

Step 3: Create a place for your dinosaur to live. Cut out green strips or triangles and glue them to a new piece of paper to make grass. Make a volcano by cutting out a brown triangle and cutting of the top so it’s flat. Add red lava. Cut out a variety of small triangles to act as plates on the back of your stegosaurus.

Step 4: Cut out the dinosaur you painted and glue it on the paper. Glue the triangles on the dinosaur's back and tail.

Step 5: Add additional details such as a sun, clouds, and the dinosaur's eye and mouth.

Optional Step 6: If you celebrate Mother's Day write a special note for Mom or Grandma on your artwork. Give your art project as a Mother's Day gift.

1st Grade Art - Paper Craft Flowers
"Mom, I love you a bunch!"

Materials: Construction paper, marker, scissors, glue

Step 1: Find a piece of construction paper that matches your skin tone. Trace your arm and hand on the paper. Make sure to open your fingers and trace slowly. Cut it out.

Step 2: Begin to make the flowers. Trace cups of various sizes on brightly colored construction paper. These will be the flower's blooms. On the smaller circles cut short snips all around the edge of your circle going towards the center. Cut out leaves and stems from green paper.

Step 3: Glue the arm and hand to a blue piece of paper. Fold up the fingers. Glue the stems as well.

Step 4: Glue the flowers (circles) to the stems. Bend up the edges of the smaller circles to form pop up petals. Add details such as leaves and seeds.

Step 5: Bend down the fingertips and glue them so it appears that the hand is holding the flowers. You may need to apply pressure for a minute in order for the fingertips to stay in place.

Optional Step 6: If you celebrate Mother's Day write a special note for Mom or Grandma on your artwork. Give your art project as a Mother's Day gift.
