Family Art Night

Family Art Night: Vincent van Gogh Sunflowers

Students and families created artwork together during the first Family Art Night of the school year.

The sunflower paintings were created using tempera paint and oil pastels.

First, we drew a vase filled with sunflowers. It was great to see the sunflowers depicted in all stages of life from a bud to a wilted bloom. The students also used the provided artificial sunflower still-life to view sunflowers from a variety of angles.

Next, we used oil pastels to trace our drawing. We also colored the background using blue and white oil pastels.

Finally, the painting began! It was wonderful to see the variety of work created by students of various ages and ability levels.

I'm so proud of these paintings! They are all very unique.

Winter Cardinals

1st Grade Cardinals

We love our winter cardinals!

First, we drew a cardinal and painted it red with tempera paint. After it dried, we used a black sharpie to add details.

Next, we created a place for the cardinal to live. The students below painted brown branches and created pine needles by stamping with a piece of cardboard.

Finally, we added snow by painting with a Q-tip.

STEAM Holiday Chairs

2nd Grade
STEAM Holiday Chairs

Students worked in groups of 4 to build a chair that would support the weight of a stuffed animal. They were given 2 pieces of paper, one paper towel roll, tape, and 3 straws.
They created unique and creative chairs!

K Snowmen

Kindergarten and PreK Newspaper Snowmen

We had a great time reusing newspaper as well as paper towel rolls to create these fun vintage snowmen.

First, we cut out 3 circles to create our snowman. Next,  we stamped snowballs with a paper towel roll.

Finally, we created a hat and added details to our snowman. The students created many different types of hats including top hats, baseball caps, and crowns.
