2nd Grade: Olympic Torch

2nd Grade students are excited about the Olympic Games.

First, the students traced their hand/arm and glued it to blue paper. They were careful to only glue down the palm of the hand and the arm since the fingers and thumb are used to hold the 3-D torch. The torch was made using a ring shape and a tube shape. Next, they added tissue paper to form the flame in the torch. Finally, they added details to the background such as the Olympic Rings and words associated with the Sochi Winter Olympics.

2nd Grade: Frogs

Frogs in Monet's Pond

Second grade students were introduced to the artist Monet. We looked at a few of his paintings and talked about Monet's life and style of art.

The students glued blue paper strips to paper to create Monet's pond. They created movement in the water by popping up the strips to create waves.

Next , they drew a realistic frog and painted it with watercolors. Details were added with markers.

Finally, the students added details to the pond such as a lily pad and a flower.

Kindergarten: Hermit Crabs

Under the Sea

Kindergarten students traced their hands to create the body of the hermit crab. Next, they traced a paper plate to make the shell. Details were added such as sand, bubbles in the water and eyes for the crab. The students are progressing very well with their cutting skills.

2nd Grade: Penguins

Crayola Model Magic Penguins

Each second grade student created a clay penguin by using clay building techniques such as rolling the clay or making a ball.  The realistic penguins have a lot of personality and each one is unique. The students painted the penguins with tempera paint.  A piece of wood was painted blue to represent water and styrofoam was used to create ice.
