Use the supplies provided to build a chair that will support your stuffed animal.

What are the different parts of a chair?

The students were very excited to get started!

Work together in your small group to build a sturdy chair.
What will happen if the chair is too weak?

Is it okay if our chair collapses under the weight of the stuffed animal? Yes!
We can learn from our "mistakes"!

Maybe you can add another leg to the chair or reinforce the seat.

We are problem solving and working together!

Now let's test our new chairs!

Each chair is unique and functional.

Wow! The students created amazing chairs! I love their creativity!

Our friends look so happy and relaxed!

2nd Grade: Vincent van Gogh

Starry Night at Young School

Second grade students used black tempera paint and oil pastels to create their own Starry Night.

We focused on movement and dashes of color to create a windy evening.

First, we drew our own Starry Night and painted it with black paint.

Next, we used oil pastels to brighten the moon and stars.

The students loved making the stars' glow.

We created movement in the tree by layering different colors using the letter S.

Finally, we added details such as windows and chimneys to various buildings in the village.

The students are proud to have their artwork displayed at Young School.

Fantastic work!

Painting Without Paintbrushes

Oh no! This week in the Art room we lost all of our paintbrushes! We had a big problem! We solved the problem by finding other items to paint with. The students loved painting with sponges, rollers, scrubbers, and even toy cars.

The students' created an array of different types of flowers.

We're ready for Spring at Young School!
